I am not a fan of urban apparel at all but I do like Damon John's message and work ethic. I love hearing about people who start out with very little in life and through hard work and perseverance create great things for themselves.

  1. I like the message too but I think a lot of people miss the big picture. We already are well off, rich even... we have roofs over our heads, we have enough food to eat, we have clothes: even a selection of clothes, not just a couple of outfits! Some of us even make enough to go on vacation now and then.

I don't understand the whole thing with people wanting to make lots and lots of money and buying stuff all the time. It's not to say I wouldn't like to win the lottery so I can have more options but I am happy how I am saving a little bit week by week :-)

  2. I think "rich" is sometimes oversimplified. While most industrialized countries do not have the abject poverty that you see in some countries, not everyone has roofs over their heads, enough food to eat and amply clothing. I think it's easy to look at these things and generalize if you've never been in the position of not having the basics. "Some" do have enough to go on vactions and a few extras, but many do not. More of what I got from his message is that you can start out in life as a "have-not" and not be satisfied with your station in life and strive to do better. I know people who seem to be resigned to only getting the "crumbs" in life and see no other way. Those are the people I think can benefit from Damon's message most of all. I think the "stuff" that you choose to buy is up to the individual and again is subjective to the individual. For example, for someone who has gone through most of their life with 2 pairs of shoes, may go and buy 100's just because they now can. This in turn may seem wasteful to a person who has always had the ability to buy a pair of shoes whenever they felt like it. I know that with money comes freedom and options and for some, those options = stuff, but to each it's own. When I make lots and lots of money, I will be buying lots of stuff, but saving lots as well, but again, that's not really what I got from the message. That's just me. I just like stuff. LOL.
